Assistant Chief Maria Olsen was born and raised in West Palm Beach. Mary, as she is known, attended Cardinal Newman High School and received an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Palm Beach State College. She started her law enforcement career in September 1982 as a police cadet with the West Palm Beach Police Department, and in October of 1984, became a police officer. Assistant Chief Olsen worked in several areas of the department, including patrol, organized crime, criminal investigations and community policing. She rose through the ranks and subsequently retired in
July 2014 as the Assistant Chief of Police assigned to the Operations
Assistant Chief Olsen attended Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville and attained both her bachelor’s degree in human resource management and her master’s degree in organizational leadership from Palm Beach Atlantic University. She has two sons.
